When you register your business for the GST/HST program account with CRA, you choose the reporting and GST/HST filing frequency you want, subject to some limitations. If you are eligible, you can choose the following options for reporting and GST/HST return filing frequencies:

  1. Annual, or
  2. Quarterly, or
  3. Monthly

You can select any date unless you usually select the date from the beginning of a month. You must choose one of the above options when registering for GST/HST with CRA.

Some Limitations

  • If your taxable annual revenue is more than $6,000,000, then you can only choose the “Monthly” filing option.
  • If your taxable annual revenue is between $1,500,000 to less than $6,000,00, then you can either choose the “Monthly” or “Quarterly” filing option.

Once you have selected your GST/HST filing and reporting frequency, you have to follow the same unless you file an election with CRA to change the filing and reporting frequency.

You can submit your election to CRA if you are eligible and want to change your GST/HST filing and reporting frequency with CRA.
